The Red Spruce is a medium-sized evergreen tree that is native to eastern North America. It has a straight trunk and a broad or narrow, conical form. Leaves are needle-like and yellow-green to dark green. They have 4 sides. Cones are glossy, reddish-brown and 1-2 inches long. It is one of the most important timber species in the northeastern United States. The light, resilient wood is used for construction, musical instruments and paper. Hardy in zones 3-7.
