This listing is dedicated to the Alocasia (Cuprea) Red Secret. The Alocasia Cuprea Red Secret or sometimes called the Jewel Alocasia, is a rare metallic-looking Alocasia with cup shaped waxy leaves. This plant has deep red veins with new leaves are bright and shiny in color.
Alocasia cuprea 'Red Secret' is a tender, rhizomatous, evergreen perennial cultivar from the Araceae family. It is typically grown for the leaves, which are large, oval and have a metallic appearance, colored dark green to red. The undersides of the leaves are a vibrant purple color, making a striking visual display.
The Red Secret needs well-draining soil, this ensures that excess water isn't held onto. If extra water doesn't drain, the soil becomes saturated. Place in an area with indirect light to aid healthy growth and prevent the leaves from turning yellow. Elephant Ears will require regular watering.
Your alocasia will cope with a variety of lightings, but it will shine its brightest when its kept in lots of bright, indirect sunlight. This plant prefers well-draining, organic soil. If the soil is too soggy and wet or too dry and sandy, you run the risk of root rot or dehydration. The best time to water your alocasia is when the top 1/3 layer of soil (i.e. top 1/3 of stick) is dry. The soil should never be drier than that though. Your plant will grow well in moderate temperatures, usually anywhere from 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 26°C). There’s no specific fertilizer that’s better than another for this type of plant. You can choose from a premium liquid fertilizer, a balanced houseplant food or even a seaweed based organic fertilizer.
