Fireweed Seeds - Hardy Perennial Wildflower for Pollinators & Garden Beautification

Overview

Fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium), also known as Rosebay Willowherb, is a hardy perennial herb from the willowherb family (Onagraceae). Native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, it thrives in boreal forests, meadows, mountain slopes, and fire-scorched areas, making it one of nature’s most resilient pioneer plants. Its tall stems (20-130 cm) carry spectacular pink to purple flowers that bloom in midsummer, followed by fluffy seed capsules that disperse easily. Beyond its beauty, Fireweed offers ecological, culinary, and medicinal value, making it a versatile addition to gardens and natural landscapes.

Cultivation Tips

• Sowing: Seeds are extremely fine. For best germination, soak in warm water for 12 hours, then pre-germinate 5-7 days.

• Soil Requirements: Prefers moist, fertile, humus-rich soils with good drainage. Fine soil texture is important for germination.

• Temperature: Germination at 20-25°C, seedlings emerge in ~1 week.

• Light & Water: A sun-loving plant; keep soil evenly moist, as dryness reduces germination and growth.

• Transplanting: When seedlings reach 5-6 cm, transplant to open ground in early May.
