The classic story is that Keldor was the half-brother of King Randor, ruler of Eternia. After a failed attempt to seize the throne, Keldor was severely injured. In a desperate bid for survival, he plunged himself into a mystical pool of evil, which saved his life but horribly disfigured him, burning away his skin and muscle to leave only a talking, cackling skeleton. He was reborn as Skeletor.
