  • Description
The Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum), also known as European Black Nightshade or Blackberry Nightshade, is an annual herbaceous plant native to Eurasia, now introduced across the Americas, Australasia, and South Africa. Growing up to 1 meter in height, this hardy plant features smooth or slightly hairy green or purple stems, with oval to elliptical leaves that are either smooth or bear slight soft hairs. The small, drooping flowers have white or pale purple petals, giving way to shiny, blackish-purple berries when ripe. The berries and cooked leaves of edible varieties have been used in traditional food preparations and herbal remedies in some regions.
