Purple Shubert Chokecherry {Prunus virginiana} 20 Seeds

The Shubert variety of the Chokecherry has a deep purple tone which adds
variety to any landscape. This landscaping tree has a medium growth rate
and will reach 20-30′ tall and can live up to 40 years! Additionally, we
should note that this is the self-pollinating variety, so it doesn’t require
a second plant nearby to set fruit. This is awesome because you can easily enjoy
the white flowers in the spring followed by black cherries which can be used in
jams, preserves, and other baking sauces.

This tree thrives in full sun and does best in average to evenly moist conditions.
It is not particular as to soil type or pH but will get cranky in standing water.
Additionally, It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in
inner-city environments. So, if you are out in the county or in the city, you can
enjoy the rich purple tree or the birds, bees, and butterflies it will attract.

This variety of Choke cherry will sucker to form colonies in the wild which can
provide a lovely hedge or windbreak or you may opt to remove suckers to prevent
any unwanted spread. Note: In areas prone to ice storms or heavy wet snows this tree
is susceptible to branches breaking as the wood is weak.
