The Satyrs were inferior mythical beings, demons of Greek mythology, (spirits of mountains and forests), whom Poetry and Art depicted from the waist up almost humanoid, bald and with pointed ears, with goat's feet and tail, in contrasted with the Selenes, whose lower half of the body resembled a horse. They were, like the Seileni, servants and companions of the god Dionysus, whom they had raised from childhood. Their favorite pastimes were playing the flute and the guitar, the harvest and the milking, but also the hunting of the girls, who together were the personification of the fertility of Nature.
