ODM 5 eye drops 1X10 ml
Eye drops used to treat corneal edema, helping to improve the quality of vision.
Corneal edema is the accumulation or retention of a lot of water in the cornea. This causes the thickness of the cornea to increase, resulting in swelling and clouding. The causes of corneal edema can be varied. It is not uncommon for a so-called dystrophy - a disease in which corneal cells are destroyed, leading to chronic corneal edema - to be the cause. But injuries or surgical procedures, such as cataract surgery, in which the cornea is damaged, can also lead to corneal edema. Those affected often suffer from symptoms such as blurred, blurred vision in the morning, sensitivity to light, the perception of halos around light sources, loss of vision, watery eyes and pain.
One treatment option is so-called hyperosmolar eye drops, such as ODM 5®, which remove excess fluid from the cornea through a purely osmotic effect, so that the cornea is temporarily hydrated again and the quality of vision is improved. ODM 5® is the first product for the treatment of corneal edema that is free of preservatives and is offered in a dropper bottle. It also contains 0.15% hyaluronic acid, which helps protect irritated calluses and promote wound healing.
The active principle of ODM 5® is based on so-called osmosis. A difference in concentration between two substances can be compensated for by diffusion through a partially permeable (semipermeable) membrane. Often, dissolved particles (e.g. salts or sugars), which are responsible for the concentration difference, are too large to pass through the membrane - so compensation usually occurs through the outflow of the agent (often water) in which the particles are dissolved . The unpleasant symptoms of corneal edema arise from the retention of large amounts of water. If you now place 1 - 2 drops of ODM 5® on the surface of the eye, some of the water stored in the cornea diffuses into the tear film, which, due to the addition of ODM 5®, has a significantly higher concentration of salts (NaCl) than the water in the tear film cornea. So there is a compensation through osmotic pressure, the excess water flows out through the tear duct and the cornea is temporarily supplied with normal moisture again and the quality of vision improves.
Recommended use:
Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Unscrew the cap, tilt your head back and hold the drip opening over the eye to be treated.
Using the index finger of one hand, gently pull down the lower eyelid. Depending on your doctor's recommendation, add 1 - 2 drops into the lower conjunctival sac 4 times per day. Do not bring the dropper tip into contact with your eye or touch it with your fingers. Then keep your eye closed for 1 - 2 minutes.
Any remaining drops on the dropper tip can be shaken off with a quick hand movement. Place the protective cap of the bottle back on the bottle after each use. Contact lenses must be removed before treatment as ODM 5® is not compatible with them.
ODM 5® does not need to be rinsed out after use.
