Phalaenopsis means ‘like a moth’, which is why it is also known as a ‘moth orchid’. The name is originates from two Greek words: ‘Phalaina’ (moth) and ‘opsis’ (like a).
Phalaenopsis orchid is an epiphyte. In its natural habitat, Phalaenopsis mostly grows on trees, where it can grow without requiring to extract nutrients from it’s host. Where there are no suitable trees, moth orchid can thrive in a well-aerated suntreated, such as a mixture of humus and bark, can even be quite happy attached to a rock or in a crevice, as long as we are nearby a river or stream.
Phalaenopsis is an exceptional orchid, It blooms longer than any other orchids. The standard flowering may be for up to three months, but sometimes blooms even longer. Phalaenopsis is considered to be pet safe to four legged companions.
