VIGANTOL 1,000 I. E. Vitamin D3 200 tabs
Origin of vitamin D3 The following
applies to the currently available composition:
The active ingredient colecalciferol (vitamin D3) in VIGANTOL® 1000 IU vitamin D3 tablets is obtained from lanolin (wool fat), the sheep's wool from live sheep. Vitamin D is therefore of natural (animal) origin.
Areas of application
VIGANTOL® 1000 IU are used:
• To prevent rickets (disorders of calcification of the skeleton during growth)
• To prevent rickets (disorders of calcification of the skeleton during growth) in premature babies
• To prevent an apparent risk of vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy people without absorption disorders (disorders in the absorption of vitamin D in the intestine)
• To support the treatment of osteoporosis (breakdown of bone tissue)
Application & dosage
Depending on the area of application, the dosage of VIGANTOL® 1000 IU is between half and one tablet per day.
The basic rule is: Always take VIGANTOL® 1000 IU exactly as your doctor has told you. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual daily dose is:
To prevent rickets (calcification disorders of the skeleton during growth):
½ tablet VIGANTOL® 1000 IU (equivalent to 500 IU vitamin D) or one tablet VIGANTOL® 500 IU.
To prevent rickets (calcification disorders of the skeleton during growth) in premature babies:
In general, to prevent rickets in premature babies, 1 tablet of VIGANTOL® 1000 IU (equivalent to 1000 IU vitamin D) is recommended daily.
The dosage must be specified by the attending physician.
For prevention if there is a recognizable risk of vitamin D deficiency:
½ tablet VIGANTOL® 1000 IU (equivalent to 500 IU vitamin D).
For supportive treatment of osteoporosis :
1 tablet VIGANTOL® 1000 IU (equivalent to 1000 IU vitamin D).
Tip for use in adults:
Take the tablet with enough water.
Tips for use in infants and small children:
Dissolve the tablet on a teaspoon with water or milk and give the dissolved tablet directly into the child's mouth, preferably during a meal.
Adding the tablets to a bottle or porridge meal for infants is not recommended, as complete intake cannot be guaranteed. If the tablets are to be administered with food, they should only be added after the meal has been boiled and then cooled. When using vitaminized food, the amount of vitamin D it contains must be taken into account.
The doctor should be consulted about the duration of use.
For infants, ½ tablet of VIGANTOL® 1000 IU (equivalent to 500 IU of vitamin D) or one tablet of VIGANTOL® 500 IU are usually administered from the second week of life until the end of the first year of life. Additional doses are recommended in the second year of life, especially in the winter months.
