I find that the easiest way to start is to use egg carton cups. Plant 5-8mm deep, keep the soil moist and in bright indirect sunlight. Seeds germinate in soil temperatures 24°C-35°C (75-95°F). Expect to see seedlings within 7-10 days.
When seedlings have developed 2-4 true leaves, detach individual eggcups and plant directly into their pot or bed (roots are strong enough to punch through the cardboard and it will disappear into the soil by the end of the season). This allows you to plant without disturbing the delicate baby roots.
