Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage, Hamlet, Star Wars) made his Broadway debut alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Dead for a Dollar, Othello) in Lorraine Hansberry’s (A Raisin in the Sun) sweeping drama of identity, idealism, and love. Following a sold-out run at BAM, Anne Kauffman’s production came to Broadway for a strictly limited engagement.

Hansberry brings us into Greenwich Village in the 60’s, crafting a razor-sharp portrait of a diverse group of friends whose progressive dreams can’t quite match reality. At the center are Sidney and Iris Brustein, fighting to see whether their marriage — with all its crackling wit, passion, and petty cruelty — can survive Sidney’s ideals.

Decades after her death, “Lorraine Hansberry’s play remains a powerful call to action. This imaginatively staged, passionately acted production does justice to her political vision” (Entertainment Weekly).

Notes: Great capture of this powerful new revival. The first ten minutes or so have some obstruction on the bottom of the frame. Some occasional obstruction throughout the video. Increased wandering. Two blackouts that in total miss about 2 minutes. Includes curtain call, audio is fed from external source.
