Originally from the humid forests of the Himalayas, at an altitude of between 1600 and 3300 m, Cardiocrinum giganteum is a magnificent bulbous plant, imposing by its size and its magnificent flowering reminiscent of a lily. It takes the plant several years to flower. The plant then reaches the size of 3 to 4 m high. Then the plant dies and the cycle begins again from the cloves left by the mother plant.
Basal leaves tufted, heart-shaped, petiolate, 30-35 cm long, then alternate and decreasing in size on the leaf stem when it appears.
Long, 15-25 cm trumpet-shaped flowers with 6 white tepals, sometimes spotted with purple-red inside and green outside. They are very fragrant. Flowering occurs in summer.
The fruit is a dehiscent capsule when ripe.
