Solandra grandiflora quickly reaches 12 to 15 meters in length.
Its evergreen foliage is sparse. The leaves are alternate simple, not toothed, glossy with a clearly marked midrib.
Flowering in very large bells of yellow color, in the shape of a chalice, trumpet, cup, or funnel, 15 cm in diameter and 20 cm long. The corolla is made up of five fused petals with purple borders. The flower remains on the stem for a long time and has the appearance of leather at the end of flowering. In the south of France the plant is in flower mainly from October to January but sometimes blooms again in spring.
