The base of sophora leaves is bulbous, and contains the bud. The leaves of the sophora are the last to appear, well after those of other large trees, and also the last to fall in the fall (in November).
The flowers are late: they wait until August to bloom! They are grouped in hanging panicles of 30 cm, enveloping the tree in a misty cloud, creamy white, fragrant and melliferous. As the small papilionaceous flowers open on the same panicle, the older ones of a few days already fade and spread in a white carpet on the ground.
