Medium-sized deciduous tree, reaching 15 m, distributed throughout Europe, from Iceland to Russia and the Iberian Peninsula. It is cold tolerant and can be found at high altitudes. Its fruits, similar to cherries, are sweet and sour at the same time, with a high content of vitamin C. It is also known by the names of capudre, alcapudre, carnabudo and sorbellano.
