It is a tree of Asian origin related to the Apple and Pear trees, it produces an edible fruit called Quince, widely used in the Mediterranean area, the Canary Islands and several Latin American countries where the fruit is usually softened by leaving it to soak in salt water for a few hours.

When sowing, it is recommended to put the seeds in a sandy mixture, either based on perlite or river stones, moistened for two months in the fridge (a process known as cold stratification), then remove the seeds and sow them less than 1cm from depth on a mixture that drains well in a bright, sheltered and warm place. Germination is irregular and usually begins in a couple of months. It is recommended to plant the seedlings in individual pots when they have several pairs of leaves and gradually expose them to the sun to harden the seedlings.
