Crassula lactea is a trailing succulent with mid-green leaves with a tapering tip and a wide base that clasps the stem. It grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 2 feet (60 cm) wide. The younger leaves are marked along the margins of the upper surface by small, white, evenly spaced dots. In winter, the flower clusters appear on up to 4 inches (10 cm) long stems, rising above the foliage. Flowers are white, star-shaped, and last several weeks on the plant.

Crassula lactea (Taylor's Parches) (Aiton): A low-growing stemmed succulent that stacks up wide, green leaves. The branching stems can grow up to 9.0" long, eventually spilling and trailing from containers. The foliage often shows an outline of white dots along the margins. It can bloom with small, white, star-shaped blossoms in winter to spring.


Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need bright sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use well-draining cactus and succulent soil with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.
