The Albany bottle brush is endemic to the south west of Western Australia. A bright, bright red 'brush' adorns this attractive and compact shrub, which is a well-known iconic plant in Australia and is increasingly being grown in gardens around the world.
This shrub grows up to 3.5 m (10 ft) high with tough, fibrous bark. The leaves are alternately arranged and 40–128 mm (2–5 in) long, flat, mostly narrow egg-shaped with a central vein. The flowers are bright red and arranged in thorns at the ends of the branches that continue to grow after flowering. Easy to grow, vigorous and adaptable, this shrub provides a haven for wildlife and birds.
