Package contents and other information
1. What Rehydron Optim is and what it is used for
Rehydron Optim is used:

to eliminate mild or moderate dehydration associated with acute diarrhea (to compensate for the loss of water and salts in the body);
for the prevention of dehydration.
If acute diarrhea occurs, there is a risk of dehydration (loss of fluid and salts). Rehydron Optim solution replaces fluid and salts lost due to normal diarrhea. The sugar in the preparation promotes the absorption of water and salts in the intestines, while the citrate corrects acid-base imbalances in the body.

2. What you need to know before using Rehydron Optim powder for oral solution
Rehydron Optim should not be used:

if you are allergic to glucose, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, potassium chloride or any of the excipients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
if there is severe dehydration;
if the patient is unconscious (possible suffocation);
if there is shock (possible suffocation);
if there is intestinal obstruction;
if you vomit a lot.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Rehydron Optim.

Having a kidney disease that reduces the amount of urine excreted or does not produce it at all.
There is narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract.
Has diabetes.
Liver or kidney disease.
The amount of sodium or potassium in food is controlled.
Have any other chronic disease.
There is blood in the stool.
Diarrhea (even mild) lasts more than 2 days.
There is severe abdominal pain.
Changed mental status (eg, irritability, apathy, or drowsiness).
You have developed a fever (over 39°C).
If dehydration is severe, oral rehydration may not be sufficient: intravenous rehydration may be necessary. If you or your child has severe dehydration caused by diarrhea or vomiting, consult a doctor. Symptoms of severe dehydration include rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, fever, extreme tiredness, muscle cramps, headache, nausea, tingling in hands and feet, vomiting, confusion, seizures, and loss of consciousness.

In infants, acute diarrhea can cause dehydration that quickly worsens the patient's condition. If the baby has diarrhea and dehydration caused by any reason, it is necessary to consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Other medicines and Rehydron Optim diarrhea medicine

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, or if you are not sure.
There are no data on possible interactions with other drugs. Diarrhea can impair the absorption of many drugs.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Rehydron Optim can be used in recommended doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines
Rehydron Optim does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Rehydron Optim contains potassium and glucose

Must be taken into account if kidney function is impaired or dietary potassium is controlled.
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some carbohydrates, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
3. How to use Rehydron Optim
Always take Rehydron Optim exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

How to prepare Rehydron Optim solution

The powder contained in one packet of Rehydron Optim should be dissolved in half a liter of lukewarm water. After reconstitution, the solution is ready for use. The prepared solution is opaque, colorless, lemon-scented.
Rehydron Optim powder must be dissolved in the right amount of water (0.5 liters) in order to eliminate the fluid imbalance in the body optimally. If the powder is dissolved in not enough water, too much salt may be consumed.
Rehydron Optim powder must not be dissolved in any liquid except water.
How to use Rehydron Optim, an antidiarrheal preparation

Rehydron Optim solution is taken orally. If necessary, the solution can be administered through a nasogastric tube under the supervision of a physician.
It is safe to take Rehydron Optim quickly, but vomiting may occur. If you or your child develop nausea or vomiting, the solution should be cooled and given in small repeated doses (eg using a teaspoon, syringe or dosing cup). Later, the dose can be gradually increased depending on how well you or your child tolerates the medicine.
Taking Rehydron Optim with food and drink

During the treatment, other liquids (eg diluted juice) can be used. However, it is recommended to avoid liquids that are high in carbohydrates, as they can aggravate diarrhea.
Rehydron Optim solution is not intended for thirst quenching. Do not exceed the recommended dose, unless prescribed by a doctor.
If the diarrhea is mild, you or your child can drink any liquids and eat any food: it is necessary to continue the usual age-appropriate diet.
No food can be consumed during replacement therapy (during the first 4 hours), but normal breastfeeding can be continued.
Dosage

Treatment of mild to moderate dehydration, i.e. normalization of fluid levels after dehydration associated with diarrhoea
Replacement treatment is started if you or your child develop symptoms of mild to moderate dehydration, such as decreased urine output, dry mucous membranes, cold hands and feet, fatigue, general weakness, muscle cramps and/or weight loss.
If your or your child's body weight has decreased and/or mild or moderate dehydration has been diagnosed during the medical examination, the usual required dose of Rehydron Optim solution is ½-1 dl/kg of body weight. The dose of Rehydron Optim solution used to normalize the amount of fluid in the body depends on body weight.

Less than 5 kg (under 4 months)

5-7.9 kg (4-11 months)

During replacement therapy, in order to eliminate the determined lack of fluid in the body, the solution must be consumed within four hours. If diarrhea persists after replacement therapy, use of Rehydron Optim solution is recommended for maintenance therapy (see subsection "Prophylaxis of dehydration associated with mild diarrhea" below).

Prevention of dehydration associated with mild diarrhea
Rehydron Optim solution should be started as soon as diarrhea occurs. As a rule, Rehydron Optim does not need to be treated for more than 3-4 days, but its use should be stopped after the diarrhea disappears. The following doses of Rehydron Optim solution are used.

Body weight

Amount of solution

Less than 10 kg

½-1 dl after each episode of diarrhea

More than 10 kg

1-2 dl after each episode of diarrhea

Consult a doctor

Changed mental status (eg, irritability, apathy, or lethargy).
The body temperature has become higher than 39 °C.
There was blood in the stool.
Constant vomiting.
Diarrhea lasts longer than 2 days.
Severe abdominal pain occurred.
In some cases, treatment with Rehydron Optim may not be sufficient to eliminate or prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea.

What to do if you overdose on Rehydron Optim?

In case of overdose, consult a doctor immediately.
Possible symptoms of overdose include thirst, dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, dehydration, low blood pressure, disorientation, drowsiness, neck stiffness, loss of consciousness, seizures, and muscle weakness. These symptoms are more common in patients with impaired kidney function.
If you have any further questions about the use of this medicine, ask your pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Rehydron Optim medicine, like all others, can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Rehydron Optim used in recommended doses should not cause side effects. If the solution is used too quickly, vomiting may occur (see section 3 "How to use Rehydron Optim").
