Maxibiotic (5mg + 5000UI + 400UI)/g, ointment, 5g
Indications: minor wounds (abrasions, scratches, bites); Burns; skin ulcers.
Action: Maxibiotic is a drug in the form of an ointment, applied topically to the skin. The active substances are three antibiotics with a complementary range of antibacterial activity against the bacteria that cause most skin infections.
Directions for use: Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Clean the wound site and apply a small amount of the medicine to the affected skin area. The site may be covered with a gauze dressing or left uncovered after application. Use 2 to 5 times a day. Do not use for more than 7 days. After treatment is completed, the drug should not be used again until 3 months have elapsed.
Composition: 1g of ointment (1 sachet) contains: active ingredients: neomycin sulphate 5mg, polymyxin B sulphate 5000IU and zinc bacitracin 400IU. Excipient: white petrolatum.
Contraindications: allergic to neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B sulfate, zinc bacitracin or any of the other ingredients of this drug; hearing impairment (in this case, hearing may be harmful after using the drug); deep or puncture wounds, severe burns or large areas of damaged skin and oozing lesions, due to the risk of active substances being absorbed into the blood and causing systemic side effects (damage to hearing, kidneys); do not apply to eyes. Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
Warnings and precautions: talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Prolonged use of MAXIBIOTIC may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms, including fungi, as in the case of other medicines containing antibiotics. Patients who are allergic to aminoglycoside or polymyxin antibiotics may be allergic to this medicine. In case of severe allergic reactions, stop treatment and contact your doctor. If side effects occur, especially irritation at the application site, or if the patient finds no improvement, stop using MAXIBIOTIC and contact your doctor. Applying the drug to large areas of damaged skin can cause hearing loss, kidney damage, and nervous system toxicity.
Interactions with other drugs: tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or might take. After applying the ointment to a large area or damaged skin, interactions with other drugs used at the same time may occur. Simultaneous use of the drug with orally administered neomycin may increase the risk of allergic reactions. The drug should not be used simultaneously with drugs that may damage the kidneys and the hearing organ, such as strong diuretics (e.g. furosemide, ethacrynic acid). These drugs administered simultaneously with aminoglycosides increase their concentration in the blood, which increases the risk of hearing disorders, up to deafness, which may occur even after discontinuation of the drug. With concomitant use of oral or topical aminoglycoside antibiotics or other drugs that may be harmful to the kidneys or nervous system, additive adverse reactions may occur. When used simultaneously with other drugs that are harmful to the kidneys and hearing, Maxibiotic may intensify the effects of these drugs.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. Due to the lack of appropriate studies, the drug should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Driving and using machines: no effects of the drug on driving and using machines have been found.
Before use, read the leaflet attached to the package or consult a doctor or pharmacist, because each drug used improperly threatens your life or health.
