SILENE INFLATA STRIDOLO! YOUR PASTA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AND YOUR GARDEN NEVER MORE BEAUTIFUL! VERY LIMITED PACKETS! THIS HAS IT’S OWN FESTIVAL IN ITALY! AN ITALIAN SPECIALTY HERB WITH THE MOST REMARKABLE FLOWERS AND IS EDIBLE AS WELL AS BEAUTIFUL!
Stridolo is a fast-growing, mild-mannered annual blending complex flavours of Chicory, Arugula, Tarragon and other favourite greens. It’s milder than that would suggest, with a flavour all its own.
Found on the edge of crop fields and in forests and mountain pastures, the sprigs are harvested before blooming and used in cooking, mainly for pasta, meat, vegetables and salads, omelettes and risottos in Italy where this scarce gourmet green is found. Little known outside of Italy.
Timing is everything—you’ll want to plant silene a minimum of eight weeks before the last expected frost, but then allow approximately 15 to 25 days for the seedlings to sprout before either transferring them into your garden or into a larger pot or container.
Silene grows best in either full sun or partial shade. If planting in arid zones be sure to place your silene plants where they will receive some afternoon shade. It’s absolutely essential to plant in well-drained soil. Place seeds on the soil, cover lightly. Keep the soil most but not wet or dry. Plant in early September to mid-October (temperate climates) or anywhere else after the last frost in spring. Transplant out after the chance of frost has gone.
