(Luffa aegyptiaca)
A hardy fast growing vine for warm areas. Use the Luffa as a body sponge or as a scrubber in the kitchen. After harvesting ,dry the luffas for 2 weeks until the skin hardens and then open the larger end and shake out the seeds . Soak the sponges overnight before peeling off the outer skin and standing in the sun to dry. Immature fruits can be peeled and cooked similar to zucchinis in taste.
