Pendent green branches are tipped with vivid red-orange flowers that remain fresh for weeks on the plant.

The names of these cacti, which are native to jungles rather than deserts, denote their blossoming time. The individual stem joints 1 to 1 1/2 inches long, from arching, pendulous branches from whose tips hand satiny, many petaled flowers.

These cacti do best in bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Before blossoming, night temperatures must be about 55 degrees. To ensure flowers, leave the plants outdoors from early fall until just before frost. Once the buds set, night temperatures of 60 or 70 degrees and day temperatures of 70 degrees or higher are ideal.

Pot in a mixture composed of 2 parts peat moss and 1 part packaged potting soil and 1 part sharp sand or perlite. Keep the potting medium evenly moistened and fertilized every two weeks during the growing season but keep the mixture on the dry side and do not fertilize while the plants are resting.
