  • Description
Feverfew, or Tanacetum Parthenium, is a medicinal plant from the Daisy family, Asteraceae. It originates in Eurasia. The plant is a perennial down to zone 5, and once established, can be harvested for many years to come. Pollinators are very attracted to the flowers, so it's a great plant to have around the garden to increase crop pollination. Medicinally speaking, this herb has a very cooling nature, so much as the name suggests, the flowers and leaves are used for treating fevers. A tea made from the plant can also be applied topically to calm inflammation; this includes eczema and psoriasis, arthritis, and bruises. The plant is also used to treat headaches and menstrual issues. Feverfew is a very gentle yet effective herbal remedy. It's a great plant to have in any medicinal garden.

Growing Instructions:

Directly sow Feverfew seeds in the earth as soon as the ground becomes workable in early spring to early summer, or start in pots to later transplant into the earth. Sow seeds 1/8 inch under the soils surface, and keep moist and warm until sprouts emerge. Under ideal growing conditions, plants will grow to be about two feet tall, and equally wide, but can be planted much closer together to create a dense patch. Feverfew thrive best in full sun, but will also grow well in partial shade. It likes loamy or sandy soils, and doesn’t seem to be particular to PH, but does like the soil to be free draining of water. These plants are drought, flood, deer, and pest resistant.
