What is Silene Capensis?
African Dream Root (Silene capensis) is a natural dream enhancer — or, an “oneirogen” — that grows wild in South Africa. The herb is ground into a powder and drank as a tea, which produces powerful lucid dreams that occur in vivid detail and remain in your memory even after waking up. The plant has a history of sacred usage dating back centuries among the Xhosa people of South Africa, who use Silene capensis in shamanic ceremonies.
Common names:
“African Dream Root”, “African Dream Herb”, Silene capensis, Silene undulata, “undlela zimhlophe”, and “Xhosa”.
Germinating African Dream Root seeds
Silene capensis seeds can be germinated by sowing them directly into soil. Make sure to place them a few centimeters deep into the potting soil in early spring. Germination will typically occur within three weeks.
Growing Silene capensis
For best results, use a mixture of two parts potting soil, one part humus, and one part perlite. Silene capensis is very resilient to a variety of mixtures as long as they're well-draining, so the plant won't usually have a problem with being planted in a random soil mix. Adding manure or compost to this mixture will do wonders for your African dream herb. Simply sow the prepared seeds a few centimeters deep into the soil and wait for them to germinate.
Silene capensis is a biennial herb and requires two years of growth before its roots are harvestable. The plant can be propagated by cutting easily.
The plant produces small, circular white flowers with smooth, forked ends.
Be sure to see our store for over 4000 kinds of seeds. We have grow, harvest, sort, clean seeds, and pack all seeds...
