Despite many references to Anchusa capensis as an annual, it's actually a perennial, with each rosette lasting between 3 and 5 years. Anchusa 'Blue Angel' also naturalizes well from seed, so as long as your soil is well drained, you'll never go wanting for the blues again.
Grow Anchusa azurea in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Stake plants and cut back stems after flowering in early autumn. Root cuttings can be taken from autumn to early winter and clumps divided in early spring, but it will self-seed freely.
Among the largest blue-leaved hostas, 'Blue Angel' (Plantain Lily) is an outstanding perennial forming a gracefully cascading mound of thick, heavily textured, widely oval to wedge-shaped, dark blue-gray to blue-green leaves, 16 in. long (40 cm), with prominent veins slightly ribbed.. . . . .364011236519!]
