Of all the embroidery styles I am acquainted with the one I find most impressive is the Ayrshire whitework that is so beautifully worked that the piece will be reversible.
This example is embroidered with sprays of shamrocks in two corners and two small shamrocks in the opposing corners.
This piece is worked on snow white cotton with a 2 inch hem held in place with a row of threadwork. I believe this was meant to be used as a pillow cover, as in place over the pillow when the bed is made up. It is 23 x 32 inches so is about the right size. It could also be a small tablecloth.
Condition is without flaw but this is an old piece and has been used. Sometimes when I photograph white on white I have to tinker with the exposure and lighting to show the detail. It is still very white.
