Between 1815 and 1845 a million Irish men and women crossed the Atlantic to establish permanent homes in the new world.
Mr. Adams begins with a portrayal of the economic, political and social aspects of Ireland in 1815 and evaluates the causes which led up to the early migration, and then takes up what he calls "the true emigrant trade" established during the years 1816 to 1818. Study of the years of anarchy and famine comes next, and afterward depiction of the great migrations from 1836 to 1845 and of what led up to them.
