OTHER: The Desert Rose is an African native that, despite its common name, is actually from tropical climate conditions rather than desert conditions. These small trees are popular because of their large caudices (swollen trunk bases), large showy brightly colored flowers, and evergreen succulent leaves that only grow at the tips of the branches as the flowers do. The flowers come in various shapes and colors, and some are fragrant. The blooms are somewhat similar to those of Plumeria, and are often up to 3” wide. They are very tropical and exotic looking and come in such a stunning array of color combinations, they are almost unbelievably gorgeous! They are deer resistant, and in cooler climates, the Desert Rose can be over wintered indoors or grown as a houseplant. These plants are very long lived and can live to be hundreds of years old. Many believe this to be a great bonsai specimen. The sap of the plants is poisonous if ingested, so use caution.
