The Carolina Yellow Jasmine is a beautiful evergreen native vine. It thrives in zones 7 through 10. In zones colder than zone 7, it would be wise to put mulch over the plants in the winter; it might be grown as a "die back" plant. The more sun and water they receive, the larger they will grow. They do not care about soil type. They grow best in rich, well-drained soil. Having said that, they are not picky about soil types. They grow happily in unwelcome clay soil.
The blooms occur in the winter. See those pictures! Those are my pictures! The blossoms are beautiful. But there is interest all year long as it is evergreen ("semper virens" = always green). The leaves are a rich green and the smaller branches are a dark copper hue.
In home gardens, it's a great vine to use on arbors, trellises, and pergolas. It covers these structures quickly, but it is quite easy to keep in bounds. It can also be planted as a ground cover and works well along steep banks. It also works great as a container plant. We have several on our property. The vines climb into sweetgums, tulip poplars, maples, oaks, and pine trees. In our yard, I have one in a baccharis halimifolia and another in a dogwood. We also have two on a fence and one on a trellis.
