New Jersey Tea is an attractive small rounded woody shrub that is sometimes called Snowball because of its beautiful plumes of fluffy white flowers that bloom in early to mid-summer. The sweet flowers attract butterflies and birds. Prepare the thoroughly dried leaves as you would oriental tea. The taste and color is similar. Can be started indoors in winter in peat pots to be placed in the ground in spring. Also can be started outdoors in spring, summer, fall or early winter. Seeds need to be soaked in water, then placed in fridge for 1-3 months to break their dormancy. If sown in the ground in fall or early winter, no preparation is necessary. Germination irregular, can take up to 90 days.
