Novices and expert knitters alike will appreciate the techniques and ideas offered here, designed to stimulate originality and inventiveness rather than slavish adherence to patterns and standard projects.

The authors show how to design with stranded colors, to make garments with standard or easily made and used paper patters. Their methods for kniotting on, sectional knitting and creating tubes, coils, ruffles, and trapunto effects will break new and old-time knitters free of any preconceived notions about what can be done in the medium.

The final chapters represent the first published examples fo how to work with the knitting machine, to create art as well as finished objects; and a range of mixed and multi-media projects.
