This hardcover copy of Merrill's Algebra One textbook from 1983 is what was being taught to Texas high school students, including me. I found this book easy to teach myself with, but I was a straight A math student -- the one the Valedictorian could never outdo on a math test (or an English essay the following year). I swear he groaned every time the scores were called out. I must have been a serious thorn in his side. Hahaha! =)

However, I did briefly tutor a friend failing the class and showed her how to use the book to teach herself, too. She went on to pass with a B, her very first in math, and continued to do well on her own. You can ask her, I'm not the type of tutor that just gives you the answers, either. I make you give me the answer. I just show you how to reach it and this book does that well. My friend always struggled in math until I showed her how to use this book.
