The tree is used for timber, charcoal, resin, fodder, medicine and dye. The tree gum is also used in leather tanning as well as in cooking. More notably, the same flower nectar that is so attractive to birds is an effective mosquito pesticide -- eggs that are laid in the flower won't hatch and any mosquito that touches the nectar can't escape it.
This tropical tree is sensitive to temperatures below 30 degrees. It is highly drought tolerant as well as salt tolerant. It can also be grown in a container.
