That is why these owl salt and pepper shakers are so desirable. This is a set of Owl Salt and Pepper Shakers, possibly from Japan, can also be used for Spices or display. Rare is a word that is over used on eCRATER, but when searching for comparisons (I dig deep), I found only one other pair like these. To me, that qualifies as Rare. These would be great to display with the rest of your owl figurine collection. You can see the great detail in brush strokes and color gradation used to make it look like layers of feathers. The eyes are proportionate, not blown up large and overstated. They are 3 1/2" Tall, see the dollar for reference, and look very realistic with their finish and extreme detail. Some people might call this bisque, but true bisque is unglazed. This has a matte or satin finish glaze, which gives it a very realistic look. Look close at the pictures to see some white spots in the glazing on the backs that look like either wear, or the glaze did not take well in those places. My guess is that it is glazing application imperfections. When Salt fell off the table, the left ear got a chip. You can see this in the closeup pictures. I touched it up in the second closeup picture so you don't really notice it. There is writing on the bottom, which was probably the original price and designation when they were sold new. They both have plastic stoppers. The styling and stoppers make me feel like they are from the 60s. There is no marking for brand or place of manufacture but with my research I believe these were made in Japan. Usually, items from Japan do not have this quality of work, but there is so much hand detailing that it could be. Please note that some sellers list with free shipping for S&P shakers. In my experience, their free shipping is often just wrapping it in paper or bubble wrap and putting it in a padded envelope to hope they get to you okay. I ship the proper way in a small box with USPS Priority Mail to get to you quickly, or you can choose the cheapest of my options at checkout and still have proper safe shipping.
