Japanese painted fern regal red is a bright, clump forming plant with a spread of 2' wide and 2' tall with reddish-green leaves (fronds) with bright red stems. in spring the new fronds are all red and slowly turning reddish-green with age. they need humidity and regular to moist soil. here in Seattle they are a no maintenance plant. if you live in a dry climate, plant them on the north side in full shade and keep the soil moist and spray them often. grow them outdoors only.
they are deer and rabbit resistant and is not bothered by bugs, slugs or disease.
