Vintage 1950s Dow Maintenance Safety Award Thermomenter Barometer Madison IL
Vintage circa 1950s Dow Chemical Co. Maintenance Safety Award 1,500,000 Hours combination thermometer and barometer. Measures temperature and humidity.
Made of hard black plastic and metal with clear plastic face and metal stand. Measures 4 x 4 inches.
Complete, very good condition with some rusting on metal, small crack on bottom and some white paint flecks on back. Both thermometer and barometer are in working order.
Provenance: This item came from the Dow Chemical Co. plant in Madison, Illinois, acquired by Dow in 1951. From 1957 to 1961 Dow processed fuel rods for nuclear reactors, generating Uranium-238 and Thorium-232 waste, resulting in radiation exposure for both workers and those residents who lived near the plant. Thorium remediation cleanup of the site was completed in November 2007.
