Licchavi Revival Copper Alloy Silver inlay Indra

Nepalese Licchavi Revival figure of Indra Padmapuni with Gupta influences in copper alloy with extensive Silver inlay. Flawlessly sculpted and cast with great detail to the chasing and silver inset. The crown has 9 metal insets of silver and bronze and the brim has rows of silver and one row of gold? the eyes detailed with pupils and iris and the way the artist cut the eyelids is spectacular. The dotti is engraved with floral designs and set with bands of silver as is His sacred thread. The lotus bud is starting to turn purple on the front and on the back of the lotus you can see the copper turning from wine color to purple from centuries of age . The silver inlay has a raised black crust also from age, the figure was venerated and ample amounts of soot and altar debris remain in the recessed areas. Over all there is no damage or bumps to the sculpture . Size 10.5".Provenance From a 5th ave Estate collection. Date of creation is unknown .
