Author, newspaper publisher, Democratic politician and Korean War veteran Paul Simon served as both an Illinois State Representative and Illinois State Senator, Illinois Lieutenant Governor (1969-73), U.S. Congressman (1975-85) and U.S. Senator (1985-1997). Simon sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1988 and was an early supporter of Barack Obama's 2004 U.S. Senate run.
Card dates from Christmas 1985, a little more than a year after Simon scored an upset victory over Republican incumbent Senator Charles H. Percy to claim a U.S. Senate seat in Illinois.
