  • Description
Scarce, vintage 1985 family Christmas card from Illinois U.S. Senator Paul Simon (1928-2003). Pictures Paul, wife Jeanne, daughter Sheila and son Martin with an 1842 quote from Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Card measures 3 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches. Opens up to reveal the latest Simon family news with facsimile signatures for all four members.

Author, newspaper publisher, Democratic politician and Korean War veteran Paul Simon served as both an Illinois State Representative and Illinois State Senator, Illinois Lieutenant Governor (1969-73), U.S. Congressman (1975-85) and U.S. Senator (1985-1997). Simon sought the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1988 and was an early supporter of Barack Obama's 2004 U.S. Senate run.

Card dates from Christmas 1985, a little more than a year after Simon scored an upset victory over Republican incumbent Senator Charles H. Percy to claim a U.S. Senate seat in Illinois.

Like New, still in original mailing envelope bearing a Makanda, Illinois, return address on back.

This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, newspaper columnist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
