It offers uniform maturing, smooth, pure white heads, weighing 3-5 lbs and measuring 7 to 8 inches across. It is a self blanching variety with the leaves curling around the heads, protecting them from sun. Excellent for home or market use and well adapted to short season areas. GENERAL GROWING INFORMATION Cauliflower plants are grown the same as cabbage plants. Sowing: For spring Cauliflower start indoors in midwinter and transplant in 3-4 weeks. For fall Cauliflower start in May-July and transplant in 3-4 weeks. Give cauliflower fertile soil, full sun and steady moisture and you'll be rewarded with large, delicious heads that are high in vitamin C. Sowing Depth: 1/8 inch Germination: 7-10 days, 70ºF Sun: Full Sun Height: 18 inches Spread: 25 inches Head Size: 7 to 8 inches Head Color: Snow-white Head Weight: 3-5 lbs Other: Large leaves provide good head cover. Botanical Name: Brassica oleracea When To PlantCauliflower is a cool-season vegetable suited to both spring and fall. The trick to growing Cauliflower is steady, uninterrupted growth. That means rich soil, plenty of water and good fertilization. Set out new spring plants early enough so that they can mature before the heat of summer, about 4 weeks before the last frost. You can also plant through black plastic to help warm the soil in spring. New plants just out of a greenhouse need to be protected from freezing weather. Plant fall Cauliflower 6 to 8 weeks before the first frost. Growing plants that have been exposed to cool weather become “hardened” and are tolerant of frost. Cauliflower that matures in cool weather is deliciously sweet. Like most vegetables, Cauliflower needs at least 6 hours of full sun each day; more is better. It also needs fertile, well-drained, moist soil with plenty of rich organic matter. The soil pH should be between 6.5 and 6.8 for optimum growth and to discourage clubroot disease. The plants should be watered when transplanted to prevent wilting. Severe shock to plants at transplanting time often causes poor head development. Work a quart of chicken manure into the soil around each plant 3 weeks after setting out the plants and again a month later. Spacing & Depth Cauliflower is easy to transplant. Set plants so that 1-2″ of the main stem is buried. Set the plants 18-28 inches apart in the row and have the rows 30 inches apart. For maximum size, be generous with the spacing. Care Cauliflower demands even moisture to produce good heads. Consistent watering is essential. Mulch with compost, finely ground leaves, or finely ground bark to keep the soil cool and moist and to keep down weeds. Water regularly, applying 1 to 1.5 inches of water per week. Fertilize plants with a liquid fertilizer such as fish emulsion or 20-20-20 after they begin to develop new leaves and when they start forming heads. Germination: Seeds Packets are labeled with seed name and sowing details. Seeds have not been pretreated unless specified in the listing. Seed is not a specific Cultivar (Variety) unless specified in the listing. Due to the many factors involved in successful germination, Seller cannot be responsible for buyers growing methods or mistakes. I have provided what I believe to be a good overview on this page (which you are free to print for further reference), however, it is still recommended to check specialist literature for more details and practices specific to your climate and soil conditions to avoid mistakes in the germination and growing process. The Nanking Bush Cherry seeds look promising. They’re packaged well and the description is accurate about what to expect. Can't wait to see how they grow in my garden next spring.
