Snapdragon, Antirrhinum majus Maximum, Seeds (Mixed Colors) Snapdragons are a gardener's favorite choice for a long lasting cut flower and adding bright colors to the garden. Snapdragons are suitable as bedding plants and are very impressive when they are planted in mass groupings. Snapdragons are easy to grow from seed. This variety can reach 36 inches in height and is a large-flowered form that produces densely packed spikes that bloom in succession. The showy, two-lipped flowers are about 1 1/2 inches long. The lower blossoms open first and then on up to the top of a tall stem. It is usually grown as an annual, however, it can be grown as a perennial in areas with mild winter weather. Most Snapdragons belong to the species Antirrhinum majus and are native of the Mediterranean region. There are more than 30 species of Snapdragon. Season: Annual USDA Zones: 3 - 9 Height: 36 inches Bloom Time: Mid-spring to fall Sun: Full Sun Sowing and Care of Snapdragons: Snapdragon plants can tolerate a light frost, so they can be set out as early as the ground can be worked. For the earliest blooms, sow seeds indoors 6 - 8 weeks before setting the plants out. Harden off the Snapdragon seedlings for 10 to 14 days before planting outdoors. For areas with mild winters, sow seeds outdoors in a sheltered seed bed in late summer. Sowing Depth: Do not cover the seed but press into the soil. Light is required for germination.
