It puts on a tremendous show because its flowers emerge prior to the leaves. The result is a tall, rounded cloud of snow, which stands out extremely well if used against a backdrop of tall evergreens. Like all good ornamentals, it has other landscape attributes the rest of the year, including glossy oval to rounded deep green leaves and an interesting range of fall colors, with reds, yellows and purples sometimes all on the same tree at once. Ussurian Pear is a dense deciduous tree with a shapely rounded and dense form, reaching 40 to 50 feet in height. It is not frost tender and the hardiest species of pear. Flowers emerge from distinctive shell pink buds opening to stunning clusters of 1 1/3 inch white flowers with purple anthers in spring.
