Description:The complete collection of classic BBC science fiction adventure 40th Anniversary release of Blake’s 7 will be released on 3 DVD and is available to order. Created by Doctor Who veteran Terry Nation, Blake's 7 was the hit BBC space opera launched in the wake of Star Wars, though with a grittier sensibility and produced on a fraction of the budget. In the third century of the second calendar, after the chaos of the intergalactic wars, a powerful dictatorship has risen to dynamic proportions and engulfed most of the populated worlds. Liberty has become a crime punishable by death, and the majority of the population lives in a drug-induced state of docility. This tyrannical authority fulfils George Orwell's prophecy of 1984 to its most terrifying extremes. This government is known as the Federation. Each world has its share of rebels who either turned to crime or the Resistance. This is the story of one such group of rebels, led by a man named Blake. His group is largely composed of escaped convicts, thieves and smugglers, who are thrown together by chance. With even the good guys being criminals, including murderers, this was a galaxy far, far away from previous screen space opera. The group was led by Gareth Thomas’ Blake, and also includes career criminal Vila (Michael Keating), alien guerrilla fighter Cally (Jan Chappell), strong-man Gan (David Jackson), pilot Jenna (Sally Knyvette), computer expert Avon (Paul Darrow) alongside the voice of their ship, the Liberator’s onboard computer, Zen (Peter Tuddenham) completing the original group of seven. Over the years, the cast also included Stephen Pacey as Tarrant, Josette Simon as Dayna, and Glynis Barber as Soolin, with Stephen Greif and Brian Croucher playing the villainous Travis and Jacqueline Pearce as Servalan!
