A a symbol of fertility and energy it is an abstract or aniconic representation of the Hindu deity, Shiva. The linga is as a symbol of the energy and potential of God, Shiva himself. An image of Shiva can be seen on the linga. The front of the sculpture also depicts a number of lines of sanskrit text. The rear of the sculpture depicts the silhouette of purnaghata, the urn of plenty, a trident and two axes. Sanskrit text runs vertically through the trident.
