The concept of a military commander in monkey form derives from the Hindu epic of the Ramayana, where Prince Rama's forces were aided by the monkey army led by the monkey General Hanuman. The casting of this piece is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the piece. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
