"1970-1978 VARIOUS LIVE SETTINGS" DVD R
This is a sensational DVD full of very rare and never officially released footage by the French Prog-Rock Band MAGMA, founded in Paris in 1969 by classically trained drummer Christian Vander.
Considered by many to be musically adventurous and imaginative, Magma makes extensive use of the choral format, their album Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh being particularly reminiscent of the classical composer Carl Orff, while ?urdah Ïtah reveals connections to Béla Bartók's piano music and "Les Noces" by the Russian master Igor Stravinsky. Magma's music is also highly influenced by jazz saxophone player John Coltrane, and Vander has said that "it is still Coltrane who actually gives me the real material to work on, to be able to move on." The footage from this DVD covers 8 years of MAGMA' music evolution; the two clips from 1970 feature the band from the first album; the 1973 clip is a very rare document of Magma just being Christian Vander, Blasquiz, Garber, Lambert on bass and Manderlier on keys. A trio with 3 vocalists (if you count Vander in, he sings a lot during MDK). The last segment of this DVD feature a great live performance in Paris in 1977.
