"COMPLETE 'MTV UNPLUGGED' SESSION 1992" 2DVD R

This was an invitation only concert. BBC Radio One had held a
contest, in which listeners phoned in answers to various
Clapton-related trivia questions. To prevent a mass invasion of
non-ticket holders, the location or nature of the concert were
ever mentioned. The show was billed simply as "a live recording in
a small, intimate venue". Those individuals fortunate enough
to have had the correct answers were screened by age, as well as
gender, to ensure a good demographic mix. Then, the final winners
were taken by coach to Bray Film Studios in Berkshire, Windsor,
England.
It is an accepted fact that Eric's "Unplugged" album and DVD
were responsible for making acoustic-based music a hot trend in the
early 90's. MTV had themselves a winning combination and many bands
and solo artists embraced the format. Clapton's concert was not
only one of the finest Unplugged shows in the series, it also
featured some of his most inspired work in years. The music was
straightforward and direct, mixing his own pop numbers along with
traditional blues songs. The end result was some of the most
genuine, heartfelt music he has ever committed to tape.
With little lighting and a no-frills setup, Eric picks up his
acoustic guitar and leads the listener down memory lane. The music
speaks for itself as Eric plays numbers from his early youth such
as "San Francisco Bay Blues" along with other blues standards
"Before You Accuse Me", "Walkin' Blues", "Alberta", "Rollin' & Tumblin'" and his great hits "Layla" and "Old Love". The two deepley personal numbers "Circus" and "My Father's Eyes" were reworked and released on his 1998 album, "Pilgrim". Despite the simple set and sparse stage, it is impossible to contain the energy that fills the Bray soundstage.
It is incredible to think that Eric originally didn't want to
release this show, because he thought that his fans would not take
to it. He said that he always enjoyed playing these classic, blues
numbers on his acoustic guitars at home, but never realised that
other people would find them of interest.
History has shown how wrong he was. You can now enjoy the show
in all it's full glory!!!.
After years of research, this DVD set compiles the best available
footage of the complete "Unplugged" session held at Bray Studios,
London on January 16, 1992. Two different sources have been combined for the first time on this double DVD offering a complete picture of the "Unplugged" session from start to finish , including the famously hilarious bit of Eric being harassed by the makeup artist!.
