1931 Springfield, Illinois - ABRAHAM LINCOLN's Home - Linen Postcard
Here's a very nice unused linen postcard featuring Abraham Lincoln's Home, Corner Eighth and Jackson, Springfield, Ill. Caption at the bottom reads "Lincoln Lived Here from 1844-1861" and also bears the number "1A-H235" in the lower right margin. The back indicates that the card was "DISTRIBUTED BY LINCOLN SOUVENIR & GIFT SHOP, 1407 MONUMENT AVENUE, SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS" and also that it's a "GENUINE CURTEICH-CHICAGO "C.T. ART-COLORTONE" POST CARD".
The description on the back reads:
This is the only home Lincoln ever owned and was occupied from 1844 until the family moved to Washington in 1861. Here three sons were born, Edward, William and Thomas; and here Edward died.
The house was built in 1839 by the Rev. Charles Dresser, the Episcopal Minister, who married Lincoln and Mary Todd three years later. Abraham Lincoln bought this house in 1844 for $1500. Origianlly a story and a half the full second story was added in 1856 for $1300 and the North front room became Mr. Lincoln's bedroom.
The house contains many of the original Lincoln possesions and is open to the public from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. daily.

Condition: Fine, I'd say. The card is unused with only very slight edge wear and a small strip of toning along the back right edge (see scans).
