BANFF-JASPER AND COLUMBIA ICE-FIELD HIGHWAY, Alberta, Can. - 1950s Map and Guide
Description: Here's a nice historical map and guide to the Banff-Jasper and Columbia Ice-Field Highway in Alberta, Canada. It's a single-sheet leaflet, printed on both sides, that opens out into 6 panels. One side consists of 3 panels bearing a detailed map of the highway running through Banff and Jasper National Parks, alternating with 3 panels detailing "POINTS OF INTEREST" along the highway. These attractions are keyed to distances (in tenths of a mile) from both Banff and Jasper.
The other side provides a description of the highway and its history, along with detailed information about the Columbia Ice-Field and its glaciers.
The guide was "Compiled in co-operation with the National Parks Branch, Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources". It was "Issued under the authority of the Honourable Alvin Hamilton, Minister of Northern Affairs and National Resources".
Size: approx. 9" x 4" (closed), opening to approx. 9" x 24"
Date: Not specifically dated, but carries a Queen's Printer code of "39-276-EL-58", which I suspect indicates a 1958 printing date. In addition, Hamilton only served as Minister of Northern Affairs from 1957 to 1960, so the guide would likely come from somewhere in that late 1950s time frame.
Condition: Very good, I'd say. There's some foxing at the top of the front panel, and a few mild creases. Otherwise, the guide is clean and unmarked. (Please see scans.)
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
